Feeling chronically misunderstood and isolated

exploring and clarifying your own values; what makes a ‘good life’ in your view
finding ways to live with life’s injustices without feeling apathetic or sliding into passive nihilism

If any of the above are familiar, together, we can work to help you begin to
deepen your understanding of yourself, your relationships and the world you are part of
identify and clarify patterns in your ways of being, understanding their historical roots as established in relationship with your parents / primary care-givers, as well as across your intergenerational-family history
identify your needs, and develop your sense of and defend your boundaries
develop self-compassion and self-valuing
Identify, uncover and develop internal and external supports
develop strategies to navigate daily challenges, based on a ‘what works best for your specific ways of being’ approach
connect to your strengths and qualities
learn to draw upon the supports and your qualities to help you take action, based upon your growing awareness
grieve the losses of what was, is and what was not-there-but-wanted/needed, aspart of your lived experience
develop discernment of what can be changed and what cannot: finding ways to take meaningful actions on what can be changed, and finding the capacity and grace to practice radical acceptance and ‘letting go’ of what cannot be changed
develop ways to be more in the moment, value and celebrate the small wins and pleasures in life
gently build towards long-term personal growth, development and transformation, where possible, with the aim to find a greater sense of balance and peace within yourself and in relationship to others and the world you are part of

about me and how I work
Hi, my name is Sam
I’m a UKCP registered psychotherapist
I trained at CCPE in Paddington, earning a diploma and MA psychotherapy and counselling
I offer online one-to-one sessions, on a weekly basis, working with adult (18+) clients based in the UK
My experience is of working with clients from a wide range of backgrounds, identities and age ranges, in private practice as well as the voluntary sector
I have a particular interest in working with people who experience themselves as creative, highly sensitive (HSPs), introverted, alternative and neurodivergent (with diagnosis, or self-identifying)
I am trained in an integrative transpersonal approach to psychotherapy
in a nutshell, this means I work in a way that draws upon a holistic perspective of human experience that encompasses, but is not limited to -
neurological and nervous system aspects of experiencing
emotional experiencing and expression
cognitive / mental / conceptual aspects of experiencing
intuition and creativity
somatic / bodily experience
behavioural patterns and instinctual responses
socio-cultural and identity aspects of experiencing
socio-political considerations
historical and intergenerational aspects of experiencing and narratives
familial, social and romantic relationships
philosophical and spiritual concerns
‘transpersonal’ experiences, which extend beyond the person’s sense of individual self, to something greater and unified
]
I draw upon a carefully evaluated and synthesised cross section of psychological theories - from psychodynamic, neuroscience informed, cognitive behavioural, humanistic-existential and transpersonal approaches.
Transpersonal work is open to spiritual perspectives, but not limited to them - it is simply open to further layers of potential human consciousness and beyond
I welcome people who hold any beliefs or ideas: atheism, scientific materialism, religious faiths, to specific or individual / idiosyncratic spiritual and mystical perspectives
My approach
I offer a warm, gentle and encouraging space
My aim is to help you feel safe within a strong therapeutic relationship, so that you can explore, understand and process the difficult aspects of your experiences
Trust is built over time and this is why I offer long-term therapy as my main preference, as it can allow for progressively deeper levels of work to be undertaken as the therapeutic relationship develops and strengthens
In our work together, I will help you identify and dialogue with the different aspects of yourself which are in conflict, aiming to bring about harmony, so that you can work through blocks and direct your energy into what you really want to be doing and find fulfilling
I will encourage you to develop compassion for yourself, so it can spread outwards as compassion for others
I will reflect your strengths back to you, holding onto the concept of you when you feel at your most calm, confident and competent, until you can hold that for yourself and start to integrate it
We can work with
Taking a gentle experimental approach to collaborative exploration, we can find what you feel works best for you
We can draw upon -
dialogue - giving you space to tell your story, verbally process and make sense of what you already know
‘parts’ work, to understand reconcile inner conflicts, address inner-child wounds, and harmonise push/pull internal dynamics
guided and improvised visualisation
working with dreams to access and work with deep subconscious processes
breath-work and nervous system regulating exercises, to develop self soothing and address physiological anxiety responses
work with bodily sensation and awareness, to access and process somatic memories
writing and drawing exercises to access intuitive knowing
and a host of others
Prior to being a psychotherapist
I have worked in a variety of care and education settings with children and adults with complex needs, both as a teaching / care assistant and delivering music workshops
In addition, I taught guitar for many years and undertook H.E. level trainings in music and art
I grew up playing in bands with friends and being involved in my local music scene, BMX and skateboarding (never attained a high level of skill or notoriety, but always had fun)
my heart and emotional centre has been shaped by the passion and urgency of punk music and culture, and my mind opened by philosophical ideas and the lessons of a range of wisdom traditions
I continue to be deeply interested in music, art, film, fiction, usually on the heavier end of the spectrum
equally, I enjoy continuing my learning about psychology, psychotherapy, philosophy, science, and a range of other subjects
I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development, so as to be able to support my clients competently and ethically
Availability and fees
Availability
I tend to have availability Mondays to Thursdays, in the afternoons and evenings.
In terms of frequency of sessions, I recommend weekly sessions - one session per week, as it allows us to build up momentum and a routine.
I tend to take breaks roughly in-line with the school holidays - which means we would have a block of between 5 and 7 sessions, then a break of a week or two.
Fees
I ask for £80 per 50 min session, on a 1 session a week basis.
I have limited spaces for concessions. I’m happy to discuss a ‘pay-what-you-can-afford’ basis for those on low/no income, for students, and those who are in need of reasonable adjustment due to disability.
For present availability, to discuss fees and to book a free-of-charge 20 min consultation, please email me at -

next steps
If you would be interested in working together, please email me -
sbloxsidgepsychotherapy(at)gmail(dot)com
to book a free-of-charge 20 min consultation, where we can discuss your needs and hopes for therapy further, and see if we might work well togetherthe following step would be to book an assessment session - this will allow me to ask some further specific and detailed questions about what brings you to therapy, and to get the broader context of your personal history and background. This will help me better understand how we might move forwards
after the assessment session, if we are happy to proceed, I suggest we begin with an initial block of 6 sessions - this will help us to build a routine and settle into therapy, and start to build the working therapeutic relationship
we can check in again at session 6 and decide how we might want to move forward, either on a long-term / open-ended basis, or we can discuss another set block of sessions
some other points to note -
ending therapy - if we progress to an open-ended agreement and we do come to a point where it feels right to end, then I suggest a 4 session ending period, to help us to review the therapy and tie up any loose ends
my cancellation policy is 48hrs notice, in all instances - this includes for re-arranging sessions
I work from a therapy contract, which sets out important considerations around confidentiality and how we will work. I will send a contract over after the assessment session, if we agree to move forward
I am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and abide by their ethical framework. The UKCP are a member of the Professional Standards Authority (PSA), who ensure the high standards of training, governance and public protection.

on the nature of integrative transpersonal psychotherapy
deep psychotherapeutic work is facilitated by a safe therapeutic relationship
the relationship is the proverbial alchemical vessel in which transformation can take place
the vessel takes time to form and strengthen, to become robust to hold the transformative processes
the therapeutic relationship becomes a vehicle in which to discover the courage and inner resources to travel to the deepest, darkest and most feared depths of one’s psyche
here in the darkest spaces lies the richest, most energy-dense material to be brought into consciousness, processed and integrated
the quality of therapeutic relationship is thus crucial - the intuitive ‘fit’ between client and therapist has to be right for you, but, it is worth noting trust is built over time, and commitment to work together is of deep importance
the work progresses in cycles, moving at different depths; it is not linear and is a lifetimes practice: it is likely never perfectible
not all therapeutic journeys have to take place in a continuous, ongoing stream of work: there is a need for breaks, to allow for consolidation, application and integration of what has been worked with
new material does tends arise and old material returns with new dimensions and depths
I am only one therapist and may be right for only one stage of your journey
the therapists ultimate job is to make themselves redundant: so that the client is able to continue the work independently, until they again need another person to assist by holding up a mirror and offering some guidance, helping them to see what they cannot yet see in themselves
This is just my perspective, as it stands in the moment of writing, but based on my experience as both therapist and client
what endures is - the work is that of making living an art-form, something that is continually practiced and never fully completed; there is always more to learn
